Plants!   Most people don’t realize the importance of aquatics plants for sustaining a naturally balanced ecosystem.  As a general rule of thumb the ponds surface should be 60% covered with plantings.  Aquatic plants not only provide aesthetics to the pond, they provide shelter for koi  .. and most important they feed off the excess nutrients in the water which causes algae blooms.  They will help prevent your pond from turning green through the spring/summer months.
